Pakistan successfully carries out a training launch of the Abdali tactical ballistic missile

The surface-to-surface weapon system is capable of hitting targets located 450 kilometers away.

RAWALPINDI: On Saturday, Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the Abdali weapon system, a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 450 kilometers, as part of Exercise INDUS, according to the military’s media division.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) noted that the launch was intended to assess the operational readiness of the troops and to validate critical technical specifications, such as the missile’s advanced navigation system and improved maneuverability capabilities.

The training launch was attended by the commander of the Army Strategic Forces Command, key officials from the Strategic Plans Division and the Army Strategic Forces Command, as well as scientists and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic organizations, according to the ISPR.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and the chiefs of the armed services all congratulated the participating troops, scientists, and engineers.

“They expressed their full confidence in the operational readiness and technical capabilities of Pakistan’s Strategic Forces to maintain credible minimum deterrence and protect national security against any aggression,” the ISPR stated.

This launch occurs amid heightened tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors Pakistan and India, following the Pahalgam attack in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian government has accused Pakistan of being responsible for the attack without offering any evidence, and Pakistan has strongly denied these claims.
