Indian Supreme Court dismisses BJP minister’s apology for comments made about Colonel Sofiya

BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah labels Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as the “sister of terrorists.

On Monday, the Indian Supreme Court raised concerns about Madhya Pradesh BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah’s apology regarding his comments about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, suggesting that it might be mere “crocodile tears” intended to escape legal consequences.

Colonel Qureshi, alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, was one of the two officers who provided a media briefing on the military details of Operation Sindoor, as reported by Indian media.

The bench composed of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh stated that the court did not require the minister’s apology.

“The insensitive remarks you made were completely thoughtless… We do not accept this apology,” the court stated, suggesting it appeared to be “crocodile tears” meant to dodge legal consequences.

The apex court reminded the minister, as a public representative, to choose his words with care.

“We watched your videos; you were nearly using vulgar language,” the bench noted during the proceedings. Additionally, the court instructed the Madhya Pradesh state police to form a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the matter.

Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah labeled Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as “sister of terrorists” in a viral video of his public address.

In the video, Shah stated, “Those who left our daughters widowed, we have sent a sister of their own to teach them a lesson,” seemingly referring to Colonel Qureshi in light of India’s Operation Sindoor.

It’s crucial to understand that Operation Sindoor was initiated by India in response to allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attacks, a claim that has yet to be substantiated. In retaliation, Pakistan launched its own operation, Bunyan um Marsoos, against India following the attack.
